Twice a year

The quality of light in a temperate latitude varies across the span of a year, and I especially like the soft light that shines twice a year in early spring and late fall, illuminating a landscape that's in transition. Right at this time of year the light and the vegetation seem, to me, to almost form a mirror image of the first blush of spring...

Glancing out the car window today, I spotted a ravine bathed in the mild November light of an overcast afternoon, with dwindling viridescent leaves on a brown background that will soon be uniformly washed in grey-brown winter shades. In about 5 months, a similar scenario will play out in reverse. With any luck, I will remember to photograph this scene again on a grey April day, and I will put my mirror hypothesis to the test.
